  • The well known Gorgonzola cheese is claimed by the residents to have originated in Gorgonzola Italy, in 879, although other towns claim the origins. Migrating herdsman used to pay their hostel bills with cheese on their way through Gorgonzola to Milan. The innkeepers stored the cheese in their cellars, which provided ideal conditions for natural mould formation.They would then serve the cheese to their guests for the rest of the year.
