Fathers Day 16th June 2019

Father's Day is held on the third Sunday of June in the United Kingdom. It is a day to honor fathers and father figures, such as grandfathers and fathers-in-law. Many people make a special effort to visit their fathers or to send them a card or gifts. Why not a Hampton's Hamper ?

What Do People Do?

On Father’s Day, many people make a special effort to visit their father. They often take or send cards and gifts. Common Father’s Day gifts are ties, socks, underwear, sweaters, slippers and other items of clothing. Other people give tools for household maintenance or garden work, luxury food items or drinks.

Why not treat them to Hampton’s Hamper, with one of our set Hampers or make it very personal  ‘create your own’ Fathers Day Hamper from our large range of products

The Gentleman’s Hamper-

This male oriented hamper features first and foremost a bottle of Pierre et Papa Maison Familiale Rouge, a medium bodied wine with silky smooth tannins that offers ripe flavours of plush, juicy fruit and notes of cherry and soft red fruits. It’s perfect for enjoying on its own or alongside the excellent cheeses that we have included. He’ll find a Snowdonia Mature Cheddar, which complements the wine very well with its creamy yet flavoursome taste and smooth texture. And Cotswold Organic Blue Cheese which harbours a deliciously creamy texture with a fresh, clean taste that develops as the cheese matures.Coln Valley Smoked Salmon is in the hamper. This is a very popular choice that we have been selling for over 30 years in our fine food shop. The traditional smokery just down the road from us was established in 1974 and has won many awards for its smoked salmon. By using modernised versions of the original London Brick Kilns and methods proved over over 200 years in the East End of London, they are able to produce smoked salmon “as it used to be” with that wonderful mild, smoky flavour rarely found these days.

Couple these cheeses and the wine with the Hamptons Wild Boar Pâté, which is a top quality authentic French pâté made especially for us. It delivers a deliciously meaty, flavoursome taste and is excellent alongside Carr’s Water Biscuits, the thin, crispy biscuits baked until golden brown which serve as perfect carriers. We’ve included Oxsprings English Air Dried Ham made from locally reared pork and thinly sliced, having first been aged for a minimum of eight months and salt cured to give it a fabulous taste. He will also find some Caramelised Onion Chutney that has won the Great Taste Award and is perfect for accompanying cheese and meat. Also some award-winning Tomato Garlic and Ginger Chutney which delivers a spicy twist to traditional tomato chutneys.

Hamptons offer a range of packaging options. We can pack your hamper in a special gift box or an open wicker basket or a wicker picnic basket or in a plain Hamptons box. Purchases can be made at the shop or delivered. If the latter, we ensure that it is carefully protected with extra outer packaging with consideration for the environment to make sure that your hamper arrives safely. We use a flexible delivery service, operating a weekday 24-hour service to the UK, so you can rest assured that as long as you order in time, your hamper will reach its recipient by the day you specify.

There are some suggestions that the idea of Father’s Day may originate in pagan sun worship. Some branches of paganism see the Sun as the father of the universe. Since the summer solstice occurs around the same time of year as Father’s Day, some people see a link between the two.

The idea of a special day to honor fathers and celebrate fatherhood was introduced from the United States. There, a woman called Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired by the American Mother’s Day celebrations to plan a day to honor fathers. Father’s Day has been celebrated in June since 1910 in the USA. The celebrations in the United Kingdom are thought to have been inspired by the American custom of Father’s Day.
